Magnum Sound was approached by Llandeilo Festival of Music and Flowers's organiser Julia Jones to provide Sound, Lighting and Staging once
again for the festival. Magnum has a history of providing equipment to accommodate artists throughout the week of concerts but 2009 was to
be a particularly special year as the festival would welcome Sir Willard White, the world famous bass-baritone singer.
As with any bigger artist, the company set about meeting the requirements of the specification in what are beautiful, yet difficult
surroundings for technical production: Llandeilo Fawr Church. As the venue is renowned for the clever mix of contemporary and traditional
architecture there were plenty of challenges for our engineers. Firstly, as expected, the concert was an instant sell-out so audience
members were placed not only at the rear mezzanine floor but also at the side balconies which are quite enclosed – not ideal for
sound. The second issue was the lack of any key lighting support for the stage.
Engineers established a solution for both these issues by installing a ground-supported truss spanning the entire width of the
church’s vaulted arches. On this truss, key lighting was placed along with flown delay speakers for the raised floor areas. The main
PA consisted of a ground stacked Logic System Ethos CA controlled from one of the only empty spaces in the venue on a compact Mackie TT24
digital console. Other lighting included Robe 575AT moving heads and effects from a Look Solutions Unique hazer.
