Magnum recently had the pleasure of supplying the PA system for 3 dates at the same venue for one of Wales’s greatest exports: The
Super Furry Animals. Sub 29 at Cardiff’s Millennium Plaza was the ideal venue for what was initially going to be a one-off warm-up
gig before the band embarked on their hectic festival season dates. Ticket demand quickly transformed the date to two and later three
nights, a great indication of Cardiff’s demand for the band and their unique and electrifying live performances.
The week was kicked off with a Tantrum Records night: Vestival (free entry as long as you wear a vest!). Headliners, Sicknote really got
the crowd going in the usual way while Clay Statues's frontman Holmes decided to give a lesson on how to smash a bass guitar into oblivion.
It was quite a night to open a week of great music and an excellent opportunity for Magnum’s engineers to iron out any room problems
with the main PA.
The kit line up was the usual tried and tested rig which works perfectly in the room (Logic Ethos) but with the addition of a single Logic
System Ethos CA delay for the bar area. This was driven from the matrix on the main MH2 console. 2 SPX 990s were added to the FOH rack to
deal with the complicated FX layering involved with SFA’s tracks.
In a break to the usual hectic in and out on the same day, the 3 dates meant there was time to relax and sort out issues from previous
nights. 3 quality support acts provided entertainment on each night and these were mixed on a separate digital console for ease of sound
checking and operation.
