Magnum recently provided a complete production solution for Party on The Pitch at Tycroes RFC near Ammanford South Wales. Chesney Hawkes
headlined the one day festival with music from bands including The Monophonics and an extremely energetic set from Fat Barry’s Soul
Band. With Magnum providing Stage, Sound, Lighting and Video in one package, organisers were free to concentrate on non production issues.
Taking place during the British and Irish Lion’s first test against South Africa on their current tour, the organisers were left with
the possibility of poor attendance at the event before and during the game. This problem was turned into a major attraction by the supply
by Magnum through its associates of a large 16m² LED screen at the side of the stage. Magnum engineers fed the game live to the big
screen as well as the audio to the main sound system allowing an estimated 1200 fans to cheer and sigh with every try and missed pass. The
screen was also used for live video from the stage and sponsorship adverts throughout the day.
As the afternoon progressed, the 24k sound system which consisted of Logic system VA, B2 and SB2 enclosures was used to great effect by a
host of talented bands as the crowd further swelled. That particular weekend was a busy hire period for Magnum but the highest quality
Soundcraft desks and Shure mics were used as well as a first outing for our new Sennheiser e945 vocal mics. The 8m x 7m covered stage, also
supplied by Magnum through its associates was the ideal size for the event with performers protected from the blazing sun during the day
and allowing every audience member to clearly see the acts on the 1.5m high deck. As Chesney took to the stage and the sun set, the
spectacular lighting rig came into its own consisting of good old PARs, Crowd Blinders, Robe moving heads and Martin Atomic strobes which
were clearly seen to light the posts at the opposite end of the pitch.
With the headlining set drawing to a close with Chesney’s own 90's classic “The One and Only” capped off with theatrical
Pyro (yes you’ve guessed it, also supplied by Magnum), party goers set off for home after 10 hours of the highest quality
entertainment.
